I have been looking for this for a while! I had located these on an old 2005 download somewhere when longhorn was in development but lost the files since then. Thank you so much for uploading these!

That is exactly what I do, I cannot stand Windows 10's atrocious sound effects (especially errors and notifications).

Agreed, that's exactly why i downloaded this for my new laptop. I had this on my windows 7 and it was great.

Can You Make Windows 95 Sound Scheme For Windows 7?
Reply
Reply
Yes and no. Windows 8/10 did away with the log in/out and shutdown sounds (and probably others I'm forgetting) played in previous Windows versions.
You can still install the sound scheme, but you won't be hearing all the classic sounds.

Can you possibly send me a ZIP file with all the sounds from the Sound Scheme into a note? I am trying to make a Longhorn theme for Vista and Windows 7. I will also give credit where it's needed.

Download link is on the right in case you missed it. No need to credit me -- these files came from a theme pack built by someone else. All I did was extract the sound files and create a registry file for just the sound scheme.

What do you mean? Nothing else needs to be done. The files are ready to be used.

I wonder why they dumped these in favor of the current Windows Vista/Windows 7 sounds..
Reply
Microsoft didn't use them in the first place, contrary to what everyone has been led to believe. I don't think they would create an entire sound scheme and not use it in the final; that would be a waste of the composer's efforts.

it sounds like windows vista beta edition.. wait code name longhorn is vista beta D

Did you officially make this? Like put these fake sounds and put it to the public to trick people into thinking they're real?
Reply
These are official Microsoft sounds, I remember when I had vista beta on my PC, it had these sounds on it.
Reply
They're not official. Your memory's probably playing tricks on you. All builds of Longhorn and Vista Beta have been found to use XP sounds (and eventually a few Vista sounds). Articles written about Vista back in the day also mention nothing about these sounds.

I was messing around with the sound scheme effects in the windows 10 control panel, but the weirdest thing happened.
One of the sound schemes was 'Vista Longhorn'
I don't remember downloading any sound schemes, i've checked this on my lenovo laptop and my custom built, the Vista Longhorn thing is there on both PC's/
Can somebody confirm that this is actually built into windows 10?

I can't seem to find this or reproduce it in Windows 10 b 11099. Where did you find this in Control Panel?

Suspiciously fake.. Why would Microsoft bring up Longhorn again?

Trust me, Microsoft wouldn't name a sound scheme 'Vista Longhorn', it doesn't follow the format properly, and the only reason it would be on both of your computers is because your Microsoft Account.
